Head injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Trauma head injuries, a leading cause of death in the young head injured population, and patients suffering from stroke belong to this group.

Monitoring key parameters of brain function such as intracranial pressure is critical for these severely injured patients. Today neuromonitoring has extended beyond intracranial pressure measurement. Monitoring methods designed to assess brain- and cerebrovascular activity facilitate therapeutic decision-making and intervention and potentially reduce secondary complications for patients who have suffered trauma brain injuries or a cerebrovascular event.

A multifunctional brain probe is currently being developed to provide reliable, safe and efficient measurement of key neurologic parameters such as intracranial pressure and cerebral blood flow using state of the art/high-end technologies in the field of optics, pressure sensors and temperature measurement combined with miniaturization on chip technologies.
